About Us
Y-Math is a group of dedicated, reliable, and certified tutors with classroom experience who place learning above everything else. We were formed in 2019 as a response to the decline in students performing proficiently at grade level in mathematics. Y-Math is dedicated to removing barriers and closing the achievement gap for students. We use a structured program with proven strategies daily. Our sessions are created in a friendly and engaging manner to capture the student’s interest. In partnering with teachers and parents, Y-Math will help build the self-confidence needed for student success.

Donna Bell-Koon
As an elementary educator for more than 20 years possessing an Administrative Certificate(Principal K-12) and M.Ed, Donna has observed students with limited skills and confidence thrive in Math. Therefore, she believes that all children can succeed. During her formal years of education, she developed a love for solving problems using different strategies, investigating solutions, and computing facts. Immersing students with positive and engaging experiences in these areas will help cultivate a mathematical mind.
Students, parents, and often educators develop a fear of Math because of their previous experiences. This impedes their approach to understanding mathematical concepts. Donna recognizes the anxiety that people may feel and desires to deliver good math instruction to students so they can share the same joy for math as in her younger years. She believes that giving students opportunities and exposure to real-world problems in Math will provide a bridge in developing confidence in learning the subject. Wanting to see students succeed and work to their highest potential has led to the creation of Y-Math.
Mission
Y-Math will provide quality mathematics intervention for students in grades 3 through 8 in the Philadelphia area that are experiencing academic challenges in the regular classroom. Instruction and activities focused on intervention will be standards driven, differentiated and with real world emphasis to improve student outcomes.
Vision
Y- Math will provide students with instruction that will build confidence in tackling basic math concepts that will be the foundation for developing strong reasoning skills and instilling a life-long passion for learning mathematics.
